Containment

Artist Statement:

“Containment”

Previously, my craft has revolved around bright colors and unique shapes, but recently I have become fixated on containing feeling in my work. Each piece, crafted in sterling silver, was made to have a relationship with the body by being worn as jewelry or as an object to interact with. I have strived to make each piece an individual sensory experience, from the sound of a lid closing, to the click of a clasp, to the smooth exterior of polished silver against skin.

While my work appeals to the senses through contrasting textures, colors, and shapes, it is meant to embody the tension between the facade we present to the world and the thoughts in our heads. The bright stones, visible yet contained within their silver cages, create a visual dialogue about vulnerability and protection while transforming complex emotions into objects of beauty. For me, this collection represents the junction between the thoughts and the feelings that we keep to ourselves and the shiny outer shell we present to others. This suggests that even the most taxing of emotions can be carried with grace when given proper recognition.
